Short inspirational quotes which cover 3 essential areas of our life ~ chosen by Classic Mormon Mom and delivered about 100 days a year.

  1. How to heal
  2. Leadership/Relationships
  3. Scriptures

Studying these three topics every day promotes well-being and understanding.   Establishing a morning routine which includes these three topics noticeably increases the quality of life.

Contemplate these three selected quotes today!

1)  Forgiveness / How to Let Go / How to Overcome / How to Heal

Select Quote: “Christ’s arrangement with us is similar to a mom providing music lessons for her child. Mom pays the piano teacher. How many know what I am talking about? Because Mom pays the debt in full, she can turn to her child and ask for something. What is it? Practice! Does the child’s practice pay the piano teacher? No. Does the child’s practice repay Mom for paying the piano teacher? No. Practicing is how the child shows appreciation for Mom’s incredible gift. It is how he takes advantage of the amazing opportunity Mom is giving him to live his life at a higher level. Mom’s joy is found not in getting repaid but in seeing her gift used—seeing her child improve. And so she continues to call for practice, practice, practice.

“Elder Bruce C. Hafen has written, “The great Mediator asks for our repentance not because we must ‘repay’ him in exchange for his paying our debt to justice, but because repentance initiates a developmental process that, with the Savior’s help, leads us along the path to a saintly character.”  (His Grace Is Sufficient – BYU Speeches – Brad Wilcox)

2)  Leadership / Relationships / Self-Improvement

Referring to the “Personality Ethic” vs. the “Character Ethic” (i.e. superficial qualities vs. internal qualities).

Select Quote: It becomes obvious that if we want to make relatively minor changes in our lives, we can perhaps appropriately focus on our attitudes and behaviors. But if we want to make significant, quantum change, we need to work on our basic paradigms [internal map of awareness and values].

In the words of Thoreau, “For every thousand hacking at the leaves of evil, there is one striking at the root.” We can only achieve quantum improvements in our lives as we quit hacking at the leaves of attitude and behavior and get to work on the root, the paradigms from which our attitudes and behaviors flow.” (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen R. Covey)

3)  Daily Scripture Notes

The Second Coming is a topic of renewed interest for me.  Hopefully, I’ll be like one of the five virgins with oil in her lamp.  Daily scripture study and spiritual contemplation are sources of oil!

Consider these verses from Doctrine and Covenants 1:14-16 (my notes added):

14 [speaking of the Second Coming] And the arm of the Lord shall be revealed; and the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the Lord, neither the voice of his servants, neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles [including all those who think they know the Lord and His gospel better than the apostles and are a law unto themselves], shall be cut off from among the people;

15 For they have strayed from mine ordinances, and have broken mine everlasting covenant [they have self-justified leaving the Church];

16 They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way [according to his own opinion and level of understanding], and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world [i.e. political correctness and social justice], and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon [current worldly “truths” which do not withstand the test of time], even Babylon the great [the modern, sophisticated, worldly culture], which shall fall.  (D&C 1:14-16)

My thoughts:  The Second Coming is real.  The signs of the times are increasing.  Focus on putting oil in the lamp.  Christ provides signs and calamities as reminders our lamps need oil.  Sometimes it takes loud reminders to get us to move.
